What We Do...
... is come to you (wherever that may be), bringing books of fabric and buttons.
We’ll sit down with aforementioned materials and decide what range of fabric and customization you’d like offered, either providing a guiding hand or letting you take the reins on what to choose.
Next, measurements will be taken of people you’ve invited (or wish outfitted). We'll sit down to customize the garment from the range you’ve previously opted for. Even when you’re in the situation of needing tighter boundaries on the array of customization, we can still allow a bit of individuality so the wearer can feel the personalization and ownership of the garment you're ordering for them.
After that comes the hard part: waiting.
Our process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. Before you know it the garment will arrive at your door. If the piece needs a bit of adjustment (bodies can change over 4 to 8 weeks) we’ll provide support and arrange for alterations so it fits to your comfort.
What Exactly Is Custom?
Traditionally there are three levels to tailor-created clothing. Made-to-measure, custom, and full bespoke.
Made-to-measure is taking a garment you see on the rack at the shop, and making a new one, keeping its design identical but making it to your body measurements.
Custom takes into account your personal choices like what kind of buttons, size of the lapel, type of pockets, or fabric, and makes a new garment unique to you from a fit template S4 has created.
Full Bespoke is the slowest process and what many people think of when they think “custom clothing.” Your entire body is measured, a pattern is made from the measurements, and then the same steps as custom process are followed. It is far more labor intensive in the fabrication which is reflected in the price and delivery time.
Where'd the Name Come From?
Napoleon developed a method of organizing his armies that is still in use by major militaries today. The number associated with the letter S (S for staff) is customary, rather than a hierarchical.
Traditionally, Staff - 4 was for supply and logistics. The people that kept everyone fed, supplied and clothed for whatever was ahead.
In addition to that though we have four intertwined S-words that shape our company ethos.
Substance is associated with integrity. To us: integrity is being true to our beliefs, spreading peace through trade, service and hospitality, and benefiting all we interact with, regardless of need, want or agenda. Substance implies depth, denotes something having more meaning than might meet a surface scan.
Sophistication in the style and service we provide is something we believe will go along way in strengthening the relationships we have with our clients, friends, and members.
Style is something near and dear to us, even if a subjective matter.
Service is one of the highest callings anyone can answer- and to us, it is quite simple: excellent service is about consideration, and everyone remembers exceptional service.
